Don't forget your roots.

Background video credit: Six60 'Don't forget your roots'.

An open letter to my sisters related by blood and by love...

Ladies,

I have had the most unbelievable past few days in New Zealand with you all.

My favourite part of the trip home was being with you, your husbands/partners and most of all, your beautiful children.

Spending time holding your babies, chatting with them, playing with them, and have them give me the time-of-day to show me what they’re interested in, was a massive blessing. I met a few of them for the first time, and others in a way where time away from you all, has meant that time has given them inches in their growth, and wonder in their imaginations.

I’ve enjoyed the discussions we’ve had where you’ve invited me into your world intimately, and shown me how much you love your children and your significant others. You all place emphasis on ensuring both yours and their well-being is priority, and keep yourselves composed in a way where people would think your lives are a walk in the park even though for some of you, life has actually been a chaotic mess of circumstances.

Through you ladies from the North, I’ve learned so much more about humility and generosity. I’m often told how generous I am, but the generosity you extended to me with your TIME has made my trip home worthwhile beyond anything I could’ve imagined. You’re all incredible in what you do outside of being a Mum, and yet you’re all so SO humble about it. You don’t have an ounce of competition in your bones when it’s just ‘us’, and yet you’re the most feared ladies in the arena when your game-face is on. Status to you all is just making sure you’re healthy, your family is happy and your homes are stable.

I paused time in certain parts marvelling at your beauty because of your unbelievable humility and titanium STRENGTH. My life is filled with strong, intelligent, resourceful, attractive, cultured and above all, LOVING women, and I am so grateful to be in such a league of HEROINES.

What my eyes see when I’m away from our beautiful home, New Zealand, causes me to now see things through a veil of composure, strength, love, kindness, humility, and most of all, HUMANITY. You are honestly the most amazing group of humans I’ve ever grown up wth, and while I’m overseas engaging in the challenges I’m able to face, I know I can now feel stronger about it knowing I’m experiencing those challenges for US. My stories are your stories. My love is your love.

It may be many moons until the next time we share another golden moment together, so until then, though you all know this already, I love you all and will carry you in my heart where ever I go. Thank you for adding so much value to my life and thank you in every language possible, for brightening the colours in my world.

My love always and always,

Kimmy xxxx

PS- My trip back home has meant that I learned the hard way where my thoughts on staying connected via Gmail and texts is concerned, and it just didn’t work no matter how hard I tried. So conceding to my staunch views on not wanting social media and messaging apps in my life, has been made worthwhile going back on Facebook and WhatsApp, because I did it for US. Staying connected is as important as is food, air, sleep and other basic things humans need.

As our cultural proverb tells us; He aha te mea nui o te Ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
